The OXYGUARD®™ is an endoscopic biteblock which provides a simple, safe, and highly effective method of quickly delivering oxgen to the patient. It prevents the occasional episodes of hypoxia and hypoxic cardiac arrests as it ensures adequate oxygenation during endoscopic procedures.

It is now accepted that under sedation oxygen levels in the blood can sometimes fall dramatically especially in the elderly but also quite commonly in the full range of patients. As a result, hypoxia can occur during or following endoscopic procedures. To monitor such changes many practices are now including pulse oximeters as standard endoscopy room equipment.

Prior to the availability of the Oxyguard®™ hypoxia would be treated by use of either oxygen mask or nasal prongs. For a patient undergoing endoscopy, additional equipment in and around the mouth and nose not only increases anxiety but also complicates the procedure due to additional gadgetry.
